What is cake on you?

Traditionally, cake on you is the event that occurs when you leave your computer unlocked and someone else uses your e-mail account to promise all your colleagues cake to eat.
Your colleague has not been this hard on you (yet!), but we feel that it is important to understand the associated risks.

Why cake on you?

Leaving your computer unlocked can pose a security breach because someone could:
  • access confidential data that they shouldn't (data leak)
  • impersonate you to mislead others (i.e. through e-mail or chats)
  • behave inappropriately on your account (i.e. try to access data they shouldn't while incriminating you)
Do your part in preventing security breaches and lock your computer when you leave it unattended, even if it is just for a short while. Familiarize yourself with these keyboard shortcuts:
  • Windows: Windows Key + L
  • Mac: CTRL + CMD + Q
